What does RSS stand for?

RSS stands for really simple syndication. How RSS works is that it allows surfers to stay in contact with new content on other sites without actually having to visit those sites on a daily basis. This also is a great benefit to people who don’t want to join a whole heap of newsletters that they just don’t have time to read.

RSS Explained In Steps

If you own a blog you have the option of actually adding other blogs’ RSS feeds and data feeds into your blog. This allows you to automatically update your blog with other people’s content without you having to write a word of it. There are a number of software applications that you can buy to automate the process completely.

If you own a blog yourself then you need your own RSS feed that you can then syndicate across the world wide web. RSS feeds are created in XML format and are then submitted to feed aggregators such as: Feedraider, Feedage, and Feedfury.

If you are going to be promoting your own feed then I highly recommend that inside your WP admin area that you make sure that your feeds don’t show your full blog post but only a summary. That way anyone reading it will have to visit your blog to read all the content. One of the reasons why blogs are so popular is their ability to spider across the world wide web with little effort on the blog owner’s part.
